Marjory and Peter Wentworth’s combined expertise as writers, and their
in-depth knowledge of all areas of the arts enables them to work with
clients in all areas of promotion - from writing press releases to special
event planning. Together, they have organized national book tours, film
festivals, book launches, movie premiers, and many other special events.
For over 20 years Marjory Wentworth has worked for numerous
publishers and authors organizing publicity and marketing campaigns.
Based in New York City for ten years, she served as the U.S.
PR/Marketing Director for London based Reader's International
(associated with Amnesty International), Serpent's Tail Press, and Persea
Books. During that time she facilitated a one million dollar library
marketing grant from the Rockefeller Foundation and established herself as
a freelance book and author publicist. She has worked as a consultant for
numerous publishers including Harper Collins, Grove Atlantic, Penguin
Putman, Berkley Publishing and Sleep Bear Press.
Since moving to South Carolina in 1989, she has specialized in regional
author tours. Her Lowcountry clients include Mary Alice Monroe,
Thomas Blagden Jr., Beth Webb Hart, Gary Smith, Dorothea Benton
Frank and Gordon Rhea. For five years she worked as a film and
television publicist promoting the PBS series Independent Lens and POV.
She worked as Unit Publicist on the films “Deceiver" and “O,” and she
worked on national publicity for the Virginia Film Festival. She has
expanded her client base to include a wide variety of businesses including
restaurants, art galleries, medical practices, political candidates, dance
companies, television series, hospitals, films, and arts festivals.
Marjory Wentworth is also an established poet. Educated at Mt. Holyoke
College, she received her M.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing
from New York University. Her poems have appeared in numerous
books and magazines, and she has twice been nominated for The Pushcart
Prize. Noticing Eden, a collection of poems, was published by Hub City
Writing Project in 2003. She is the Poet Laureate of South Carolina.
Peter Wentworth graduated from Columbia University in 1993 with an
MFA in film. He worked as a story analyst for New Line Cinema,
Vestron, Nederlander Films, Lightning Pictures and David Bowie. He
was an early contributor to the Off-Hollywood Reporter (currently
Filmmaker Magazine) and continues to write for magazines including
Charleston Magazine, Skirt, The Post & Courier, and The Independent.
He Produced with Whit Stillman the Academy Award nominated film
"Metropolitan." His company, Allagash Films Co, financed several
independent feature films including: “Swoon” which won the 1991
Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival; and Chris Munch’s
"The Color of A Brisk and Leaping Day" which won the Cinematography
Award at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival. He was the Co- Producer of
“The Dream Catcher,” winner of the Best Director Award at the LA
Independent Film Festival and produced with Robert Stigwood "Other
Voices, Other Rooms," an adaptation of the Truman Capote novel of the
same title, and “Paradise Falls,” which Won Best Film at the five festivals
it competed in: Hollywood, Nashville, Atlanta, Charleston and Houston,
but remains undistributed. As a Line Producer his credits include the
NBC Movie of the Week "Caught in the Crossfire," the Tom Berenger
Film “An Occasional Hell,” “Ripe,” and “Alma,” a documentary with
Atlanta Filmmaker Ruth Leitman, which was invited to the Whitney
Biennial in 2002.
He has had projects in development with Disney, Paramount, Hemdale
and the Avnet Kerner Company.
As a publicist he approaches each book from a narrative hook
perspective, looking for ways to gain exposure through non-traditional
review methods, such as feature articles and book club promotion. He
also evaluates each book for potential film & television deals.
